End-to-end encrypted messaging on our self-hosted Matrix server. Spaces, channels, DMs — like Slack, but we run it. Set up takes about 10 minutes.

Your admin sends you a registration token as a secure note in the password vault. You will need it to create your account.

.exe / macOS .dmg / Linux .debWindows .exe / macOS .dmg / Linux .debGo to app.element.io in a browser. Works in a pinch, but the native apps are preferred — a hosted web app can be silently updated, potentially compromising your keys.

This is your recovery key for encrypted messages. If you lose it and later sign out or lose your device, your encrypted message history is gone for good — nobody, not even the admin, can recover it.

When you sign in on a new device (e.g. phone after laptop), you will use this key — or an already-signed-in device — to verify the new device so it can read your encrypted history.

This step is easy to overlook and it will silently break encrypted group chat. Until verified, you can DM but cannot decrypt shared encrypted rooms — messages show as "unable to decrypt."

You only need to verify once with any verified teammate. After that, new encrypted rooms just work.

You will see a shield icon. Not even the server can read them. Requires verification (step 4) to read shared rooms.

On purpose, so new teammates can read the backlog and search works. Do not put secrets in public channels — use a DM or the vault.

Registration token not working註冊令牌無效
Make sure you are choosing "Create Account" (not "Sign In") and the homeserver is im.dset.tw. The token is case-sensitive. If it still fails, ask the admin for a new one.
確認選的是「Create Account」（不是「Sign In」），且伺服器設為 im.dset.tw。令牌區分大小寫。仍然失敗請聯繫管理員取得新令牌。
